American Legion Post 197 held their annual ‘Your Health Matters’ community family event at their Northside campus. The free services included health screenings, free covid/flu shots, prostate health education and nutritional panel.  Serving nutritional dish samples, registrants walked away understood nutritional plans, contents, ingredients and preparing healthy meals for themselves and their families.

The health fair was also a celebration of awareness. Prostate cancer survivor and Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) Rep A.J. Merriweather has turned his pain into purpose and works tirelessly to educate others on the dreaded disease. He received an award for his efforts to foster change, participant engagement and driving scientific discovery within the realm of cancer research.

“There should be no secrets. The rates are high and rising,” he said.
