The Step-by-Step 4 Help Foundation hosted the 4th annual, ‘Shades of Green Mental Health Excellence Awards Gala,’ on Sunday, May 17, at WJCT studios. The event honored community leaders, advocates, and organizations making a meaningful impact in mental health awareness, advocacy, and community wellness.
The Shades of Green Mental Health Excellence Gala was created to honor those who show up for our community and to remind everyone that mental health matters to reduce the stigma related to mental illness, intensify parental engagement, and reduce crime to create safer communities. The organization’s philosophy is to raise awareness, provide support, and share resources for mental health, while advocating for prevention services, early identification, intervention of systems, and plans of action to hopefully stop the progression of mental illness.
During the year, the foundation provides client services that assist with counseling services, skills development groups, financial literacy classes, career counseling, workforce development, mentorship programs and community outreach events to program clients. Their website mental health statistics state that nearly 1 in 5 American adults will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year. 46 percent of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition sometime in their life, and half of those people will develop conditions by the age of 14.Number of US Adults with Mental Illness: 44 million,Percent of US Adults with Mental Illness: 18%.
