The Shawn D. Delifus Foundation is seeking Teen Lifeguard Candidates, 16 -18 years of age, for a free, 12-week Lifeguard Training & Mentorship Program in Jacksonville, Florida.  Founded by Joyce Delifus, the Shawn D. Delifus Foundation was named after her son, Shawn DeAngelo Delifus, who was an accomplished Swim Coach for 14 years.  Shawn passed away suddenly on April 22, 2016 at the age of 30.

Shawn was the CEO of the Stroke Dr. International where he developed swim techniques and concepts that catapulted three of his swimmers to the 2016 swimming trials. Two of his students passed the trials and went on to the Rio Olympics where they collectively earned five gold medals. Joyce continues to keep his memory and legacy alive through the foundation.

The Shawn D. Delifus Foundation is a multidisciplinary swim program that promotes education, character, and the development of life skills through innovative and non-traditional training techniques in underserved communities. Joyce Delifus stated, “The Delifus Foundation is dedicated to bringing the sport of swimming into the lives of children and providing them with opportunities for personal growth and development.”

Program participants receive bi-weekly mentoring sessions for six weeks via Zoom. A $30 weekly transportation stipend is provided and a free YMCA membership is included for training. The lifeguard certification testing is paid. Employment is available after certification. Candidates should apply before September 1, 2023 for the program.

For more information about the Lifeguard Training & Mentorship Program, please call Joyce Delifus, President & CEO, at 904-616-8318.
