Shared Meals with the Homeless Focus of Celebrity Server Fundraiser

Local celebrities mixed their talents and served food to the homeless for the 22nd annual Clara White Mission’s Annual “Miracle on Ashley Street Celebrity Servers” fundraiser. Each year, Clara White Mission (CWM) organizes community leaders to join their efforts to prepare and serve lunch under the big tent on Ashley St.  This year’s event spotlighted CWM’s urban farm and the new Beaver Street Veteran’s Villas. Hosted by News Anchor Melanie Lawson and broadcast live from WJXT studios, the live feed showcased the entertainment, the food and dedicated efforts of the celebrity chefs.

Over 150 community leaders assisted in serving the 900 homeless patrons and then sat down and shared a meal with them.  As a Celebrity Server participation is an important model for community leadership and represents the backbone of a grassroots solution to problems such as homelessness. Chefs take intervals and serve for 30 minutes increments. The “Miracle on Ashley Street” has become one of the Mission’s most successful fundraisers, bringing together Jacksonville’s political and business community to break bread with the city’s homeless veterans and low-income. Over the past 20 years, this event has raised more than $595,000.00 to aid in eliminating homelessness in Jacksonville.

This year, the mission raised nearly $70,000. Annually over 200 members from Jacksonville’s high profile political, media and business arenas participate as celebrity servers. For over 110 years, Clara White Mission has offered a unique combination of services and history to the community in a cost effective approach, while addressing the urgent and critical demands for the homeless and low-income.
