Sankofa Youth Sojourn to City Hall

Since the end of June, Sankofa Summer Camp/Urban Geo Phonics has been in session teaching academics, phonics, fluency, sign words, robotics, economics, agriculture, fitness, art, mechanics and black history curriculum to camp students. The campers meet Mon – Friday, 8 – 4:30 p.m. for ages 6 – 16 at Eugene Butler Middle school. This week’s activity was a field trip to City Hall, where the students visited the Mayor and City Council offices to learn the inner workings of city government leadership. Urban Geo Phonics is a community non-profit whose diverse interests include education, to raising awareness through sit-ins and marches, youth rites of passage programs, financial planning workshops and clothing for the homeless.
