Rabia Temple No.8 Ancient Egyptian Arabic Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America Jurisdiction PHA. Inc., is a nonprofit entity organized and existing under the laws of the State of Florida since April 18, 1974. Rabia is one of the 257 Temples throughout the world and is in 47 States and is the oldest Temple in the World. Temple No.8 was originally known and recognized by the name Union Temple No.8. Union Temple was chartered on January 9, 1894 and re-chartered June 20, 1902. According to Desert of Florida records in 1894 the first temple was established in “The Sunshine State”. Rabia Temple #8, located in Jacksonville, continues to hold its position as the oldest active Prince Hall Shrine Temple in a state which boasts some of the oldest temples in the Nation.
Rabia Temple No. 8 international mantra is to serve others.
Each year Rabia feeds approximately 300 senior citizens through their annual charitable endeavors that include thanksgiving dinner distribution, Christmas party for children which began in 1991 and provides at least 100 toys for Christmas every year. Nationwide endeavors support the National Diabetes Initiatives bringing awareness to the African American community with seminars to discuss preventive measures to living a healthy lifestyle. Rabia has donated over $10,000 to the National Diabetes Foundation.
This past Saturday Rabia Temple No. 8 celebrated its 125th year of service to the community at the Hyatt Regency on downtown’s north bank. The event was attended by over 300 people from the local temple and surrounding counties, states and municipalities to rally and celebrate the temples major accomplishment and over 100 years of service.
