Pink Goes Red for Heart Health Month

Gamma Rho Omega Chapter ‘s 2016 Pink Goes RED for Heart Health – On Friday, February 5th over 250 people attended an evening of awareness and fun activities when Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated’s Gamma Rho Omega Chapter partnered with The Bethel Church’s Healthy Bethel Ministry in celebration of National Go Red for Women Day.  Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason. The event was held in The Bethel Church and provided the community an opportunity to gain knowledge on heart disease from Cardiologist, Dr. Holly Hancock and participate in AKAcize and other healthy activities during the event.  This Community Impact Day is a component of the sorority’s International Program – Launching New Dimensions of Service.  The event was led by the chapter’s Health Promotions Committee with Mrs. Rose Jefferson, Mrs. Danette McQueen and Mrs. Lequista Smith serving as the event Team Leaders.  Dr. Phillis Varnado is the Health Promotions committee chairman and Mrs. Willetta R. Richie is the chapter’s president. Pictured l-r is Gamma Rho Omega Chapter members Phillis Varnado, Willetta R.
