By C. Dupree | It was another sold-out event in support of the NAACP as they gathered for their annual Freedom Fund Luncheon. Keynote speaker, Atty. Bacardi Jackson, the new Executive Director of ACLU of Florida, brought the audience through a hundred-year journey of trials and tribulations of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” from slavery with her grandfather to today in her continued efforts of not relinquishing freedom of everyday people by standing on generational courage.  This was the message to every listening ear in attendance at the 60th installment of the event held at the Hyatt Riverfront Hotel downtown.

Among the distinguished honorees and award recipients was Deborah Thompson (President’s Award), Dr. Felicia Gaines, Presiding Elder Elizabeth Yates, Dr. Rahman Johnson, Mali’Vai Washington, and Dr. Christina Montford. Ms. Rometa Porter and Rodney Hurst were also honored as Lifetime Achievement honorees as participants on the 65th Commemoration of the Jacksonville Youth Council NAACP Sit-ins and Ax Handle Saturday.
