By William Jackson – Rodney L. Hurst, author, historian, educator and civil rights leader spoke to the People Reading for Inspiration, Discussion, and Enjoyment (P.R.I.D.E.) book club at the Main Library Downtown Branch. Atlantic Coast High School student Janae Brown was excited to hear Mr. Hurst and what he shared, “Black History is being denied in the classrooms of Florida schools and even being banned in books in Florida and other states,” she shared, “it is powerful to be here and experience living history.”  The agenda also included the historical works of other civil rights icons including Dr. Arnett Elyus Girardeau Jr., Rutledge Henry Pearson, James Weldon Johnson, Asa Philip Randolph and more.
