The City of North Miami recently announced the appointment of Councilwoman Kassandra Timothe as the new vice mayor. The decision was made during a regular city council meeting held on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
A lifelong resident of North Miami, Timothe was first elected to the city council to represent District 2 in 2021. Since then, she has spearheaded numerous programs focused on supporting small businesses, engaging youth, and improving local infrastructure.
Timothe holds a Master’s of Public Administration (MPA) degree and has a background in strategic communications. Prior to her election, she served as North Miami’s Public Information Officer, where she played a role in enhancing community relations and promoting government transparency.
As a councilwoman, Timothe has championed initiatives that address the needs of local entrepreneurs. She initiated the annual Teach to Fish summit, which works to fuel entrepreneurial dreams by providing essential resources and training for small business owners. Her advocacy has helped bolster economic opportunities and support for startups in the community.
The appointment as vice mayor marks a new milestone in Timothe’s public service career. She expressed her gratitude and commitment to the role, stating, “I am honored and humbled to step into this role as vice mayor. My commitment to the people of North Miami remains stronger than ever, and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues and community members to create meaningful progress for our city.”
The appointment comes at a time of change for North Miami’s leadership. The city made headlines last year for its decision to terminate the contract of former city manager Rasha Cameau, a move first introduced by Timothe. The city now faces the challenge of choosing a new city manager while North Miami CRA Executive Director Anna-Bo Emmanuel continues to serve in the interim.
