Jax Native Earns Senior Sailor of the Year Serving at Carrier Strike Group Four

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Petty Officer 1st Class India Joseph from Jacksonville, Florida, serving with Carrier Strike Group Four, earned Senior Sailor of the Year for 2015.
The Sailor of the Year Program recognizes superior performance of enlisted personnel emphasizing outstanding achievements, exemplary personal conduct and military bearing, and demonstrated initiative in the performance of duty. This program also motivates personnel to strive for improvement in their assigned duties and leadership.
“This is the greatest honor I’ve ever received in my Naval service, which means the world to me,” said Joseph.
As an information systems technician and leading petty officer, Joseph ensures all information systems technicians are properly trained to assess systems when embarked aboard ships.
“Besides being a mentor for junior Sailors, this job has given me exceptional travel and education opportunities,” said Joseph.
Located in Norfolk, Virginia, Carrier Strike Group Four mentors, trains and assess Atlantic Fleet combat forces to forward deploy in support and defense of national interests.
Joseph, a 2006 graduate of Orange Park High School, has served in the Navy for nine years.
She is the daughter of Larry Irvin, also a Jacksonville native.
The Navy has given Joseph an opportunity of a lifetime.
“The Navy has taught me to accept different personalities and help others grow based on that information,” added Joseph.
