Inspired by the 53-year-old award-winning actor and his relationship with his daughter, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to thank Netflix “for giving my literal diary a place to live and breathe.”
“We’ve been sharing our stories for years and now we can finally bring them to television!,” she captioned her Instagram post sharing the news.
“@iamjamiefoxx , even though you embarrass the hell out of me, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she continued. “We can make this show because you care so much about our relationship and have gone to (sometimes over the top) measures to keep it strong ❤️ Be prepared to get a glimpse into the last 26 years of our lives together. Time to put my producer hat on! Let’s do this.”
Brian Dixon (Jamie Foxx) is a successful business owner and bachelor and unexpectedly becomes a full-time father to his teenage daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew). Determined to repair his relationship with his daughter, Brian enlists help from his dad (David Alan Grier) and sister (Porscha Coleman) to help Sasha fit into her new imperfect yet loving home.
This won’t be the first project the father-daughter duo will work on together. They previously worked on Carpool Karaoke and have co-hosted three seasons of Fox’s Beat Shazam.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that Foxx will play the owner of a cosmetic company because “We didn’t want him to play himself,” and makes the compelling argument stating “what’s more embarrassing that your dad doing makeup all the time?”
The series is set to premiere on the streaming platform on April 14.
