Shown speaking to attendees are BBIF facilitators Jason Wells and Caleena Shirley, Regional Director - North Florida.

To educate local residents with valuable insights into managing and growing their wealth, the Black Business Investment Fund (BBIF) conducted a free financial literacy workshop to inform and educate Jacksonville citizens on a grassroots level.

The workshop educated nearly 30 participants on everything from budgeting basics and creating a spending plan to credit scores and securing funding. Participants also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with facilitators and banking executives to discuss bank accounts, loans and grants available for small business account holders.

Black Business Investment Fund was established out of a Florida statute through the Florida Small and Minority Business Act of 1985. BBIF was founded  in Orlando in 1987, and since it began has provided over 1,100 loans totaling $86.8 million along with leveraging $378 million in new markets tax credit community investments. The organization’s investment has been connected to the retention or creation of 14,000 jobs, and has grown to include offices in other parts of the state.

“This financial workshop is just the beginning for our clients and the Jacksonville community. When business owners are educated, they thrive and succeed,” said BBIF North Florida Representative Caleena Shirley.  For more info visit www.BBIf.com.
