The International Longshoreman’s Local 1408 Annual Labor Day Family Fun Picnic and Cookout was a “go” on Monday, September 7th despite inclement weather. Each year the International Longshoreman American Labor Union celebrates the labor movement and dedicates time to the the social and economic achievements of American workers. Over 800 family and friends converged on Metropolitan Park for the anticipated event. The picnic commenced at noon and was a fun-filled day for the entire family. Attendees enjoyed bar-b-q-ribs, chicken, hot dogs music and activities for the kids. Professed “PitMasters” also had a chance to sign up for the “Elbert “Oodie” Robinson Barbeque Cook-Off Contest” where they competed for cash and prize. There was also a section for International Longshoremen’s Association of Retirees (JILAR) to relax. Local 1408 provides thousands of jobs to the local community through the port of Jacksonville.
