Jacksonville, Florida. Born and raised in Duval County, Powell has become one of the city’s most recognizable cultural ambassadors, transforming local pride into national success and community uplift.

Powell adopted the stage name Lil Duval early in his career as an homage to Duval County, a nod to the community that shaped him. After graduating from First Coast High School, he moved to Atlanta to pursue entertainment, eventually gaining national exposure as a finalist on BET’s Coming to the Stage and a regular cast member on MTV2 programs such as Guy Code and Hip Hop Squares.

Along the way, he expanded his presence into film roles and music, including the Billboard-charted single “Smile (Living My Best Life)” featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy.

Beyond his achievements in comedy and entertainment, Lil Duval has made giving back to Jacksonville a central part of his identity. For more than a decade, he has hosted annual community events designed to bring people together, celebrate local culture and create opportunities for residents.

The flagship event, known as Duval Day, started as a neighborhood block party and has grown into a major community tradition featuring music, food vendors, local businesses and family-friendly activities. Organizers say the event draws thousands of attendees and serves as a positive, unifying experience for the city’s Northside neighborhoods.

“It’s about giving back, celebrating where I come from, and showing the next generation that I see them, support them and believe in them,” Duval has said of the event, emphasizing that “this city made me, and I’ll never stop showing love to the people that raised me.”

Local leaders have embraced the initiative as both a cultural celebration and an economic opportunity for small vendors and entrepreneurs. Jacksonville City Council members have supported efforts to secure appropriate venues and infrastructure for Duval Day as it has expanded.

“District 10 is the heartbeat of Jacksonville. Hosting Lil Duval Day in this district is more than a celebration; it’s a powerful reflection of our commitment to including families, empowering youth, and honoring the talent that has come from our city,” said Councilwoman JuCoby Pittman.

Powell’s community involvement extends beyond annual festivals. In recent years he has used his platform and resources to address immediate needs in the city. In 2025, he covered the cost of 35,000 meals through Feeding Northeast Florida at a time of critical need amid delays in federal food assistance programs, according to local reports. He also stepped in to help the Raines High School band travel to a state championship game, making up shortfalls in fundraising so students could compete.

These actions have reinforced Lil Duval’s reputation in Jacksonville not just as an entertainer, but as a hometown champion willing to support youth and families. Residents and vendors at Duval Day events say the gatherings foster community cohesion and pride, giving local merchants a chance to showcase their goods in their own neighborhoods.

Entertainment industry observers note that Lil Duval’s influence extends beyond regional ties. His blend of stand-up, social media engagement, television roles and music has allowed him to cultivate a broad audience and maintain relevance in an evolving media landscape. Yet even with a national platform, Powell continues to center his identity on Jacksonville, reinforcing a narrative of success that is inseparable from community loyalty all while setting the example.

As Lil Duval marks more than two decades in entertainment, his career and community involvement illustrate how an artist can leverage popularity into sustained, positive local impact — a testament to the enduring bond between a hometown and the performer it helped shape.
