Emerald Trail 5K Attracts 800 Runners

Emerald Trial Runners Brenda and Alan McBride

The 5th Annual VyStar Emerald Trail 5K-10K presented by JTC Running ran with more than 800 runners and walkers experiencing the Emerald Trail LaVilla Link for the first time. The LaVilla, which opened in May of this year, is the first completed portion of the Emerald Trail. The 10K runners continued along the southern portion of the S-Line Rail Trail. Also, for the first time this year, a 1-mile Fun Run offered participants of all ages and skill levels the chance to join in the fun and see the new LaVilla Link. When completed, the Emerald Trail will connect 14 historic neighborhoods to downtown, the St. Johns River, McCoys Creek and Hogans Creek. It will link 16 schools, two colleges, 21 parks, three hospitals and the JTA Regional Transportation Center.
