Establishing itself as the new fashion city in Florida, Duval County is now on the cutting edge with fashion shows and stylish couture options for Duval’s fashionistas. The Red Velvet Boutique recently ripped the runway for the inaugural ‘Glitz and Glamour Fashion,’ show held at the Cosmopolitan Ballroom. Hosted by the boutiques owner and retired military veteran Calendula Sanders, guests enjoyed entertainment, networking and mingling with models and guests.

Following a 29-year military career, Sanders opened her boutique downtown inside Market Street’s Workspace Suites and is now located in her first brick and mortar location on Southside Blvd.

During her formative years, fashion was the centerpiece of the Chicago native family tailoring options. Sanders proudly reminisces on her grandmother and mother’s sassiness and pride when dressing in the finest silk and taffeta fabrics. In 2018, Sanders received orders from the Navy for her final assignment at Jacksonville Naval Air Station (NAS) on the westside.

The Chicago native, also mentors youth interested in fashion design, while continuing shopping for the latest’s fashion trends to showcase in her boutique.

“I have to reiterate that no matter where you go style matters. Whether your style is blue jeans, dresses or heels, creating your own chicness will set you apart at an interview, gala’s, visiting friends or visiting associates,” said Sanders.
