The Jacksonville Urban League family recently celebrated the 80th birthday of their Dr. Richard Danford Jr. and his 33 years of dedicated service to the community.

Surrounded by his wife, Duval County Property Appraiser Joyce Morgan, along with his children, siblings, family, and friends, the room overflowed with admiration and gratitude, reflecting the impact Dr. Danford has had on the community. The celebration was not just a birthday party; it was a tribute to a life well-lived and still leading.

Dr. Danford, a veteran, scholar, and civic trailblazer, has been a guiding force at the Jacksonville Urban League, empowering communities and promoting economic self-sufficiency. In addition to his professional duties, he is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and VFW Post 4761. In his heartfelt remarks, Dr. Danford expressed his gratitude for the support and love he has received throughout his journey. He emphasized the importance of community and the motivation he derives from the people around him. Dr. Danford announced his plans to continue his impactful work through the opening of the Community and Veterans Empowerment Center, which will honor veterans who served in war and fulfill a special place in his heart as a Vietnam veteran.

City Council member and once Urban League employee Rahman Johnson captured the essence of the celebration, stating, “What a phenomenal celebration as we honor a man whose life has been a masterclass in service, strength, and excellence. For 33 years, Dr. Danford stood at the helm of the Jacksonville Urban League, lifting communities, opening doors, and raising the standard for what leadership looks like.”
