Comedian Paul Mooney Dead at 79

(Source: www.kiro7.com) By Kelli Dugan, Cox Media Group National Content Desk – OAKLAND, Calif. — Comedian Paul Mooney died Wednesday at his Oakland, California, home at the age of 79, a family member confirmed to journalist Roland S. Martin.

Martin tweeted the news just after 10 a.m., citing Mooney’s cousin, Rudy Ealy.

According to Ealy, Mooney died of a heart attack, Martin wrote.

Mooney was born Paul Gladney on Aug. 4, 1941, and is best known for his portrayal of singer Sam Cooke in “The Buddy Holly Story,” as well as his appearances on “Chappelle’s Show” and as a longtime writer for comedian Richard Pryor.
