Comedian Paul Mooney Dead at 79

Martin tweeted the news just after 10 a.m., citing Mooney’s cousin, Rudy Ealy.

According to Ealy, Mooney died of a heart attack, Martin wrote.

Mooney was born Paul Gladney on Aug. 4, 1941, and is best known for his portrayal of singer Sam Cooke in “The Buddy Holly Story,” as well as his appearances on “Chappelle’s Show” and as a longtime writer for comedian Richard Pryor.
