City Year Inspires, Recruits New Graduates

City Year graduates include: Za'vion Houston, Akhari Roberts, Darnell Dixon, jr., Justus Bettis, Navah Williams, Havalin Alexander and Krista Liggins

City Year Jacksonville recently celebrated the completion of the 2023-2024 school year and their 10th anniversary with a graduating class of 50 members. The graduating class consists of young adults both from Duval County and hometowns as far as Michigan who served as Student Success Coaches. They provided essential mentorship to elementary school students throughout Duval County in 10 elementary schools. Between tutoring and supporting students during the school day, as well as leading after-school programming and school culture initiatives, these Student Success Coaches were able to directly help more than 5250 local students progress both academically and socially. 17 of this year’s members will return for an additional year of service.  Before City Year’s Student Success Coaches receive their certificates and say the alumni pledge, ceremony attendees heard from Volunteer Florida; Duval County Public Schools Superintendent and City Year Jacksonville executives.

The organization is actively recruiting new AmeriCorps members to serve in local schools during the 2024 – 2025 school year. More than 25 active openings are available, with most roles starting with training in July. Once a City Year member graduates from the program, the organization works to support these young leaders with continued education and/or workforce opportunities in Northeast Florida. City Year graduates also receive an education award to help fund continued education. Shown are the 2023-2024 City year graduates.
