Celebration of Life for Dr. William Lewis Cody, Sr.

A Celebration of Life for Dr. William Lewis Cody, Sr. will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12:00PM in The Bethel Church, where he held membership, Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Jr., Pastor and Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus. In 1990, Dr. Cody became the Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Division at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. Not long after, he began private practice, leading to a fulfilling and distinguished career. In 1999, his successful practice merged with the North Florida OBGYN. After a 30-year career, Dr. Cody retired in 2020 as Managing Partner of St. Vincent’s Hospital Division IV of North Florida OBGYN. In 2002, nominated by his OBGYN peers for his expertise, he was included in the Best Doctors Inc. database and recognized as Top Rated among First Coast Physicians. He received the OneJax Institute’s Humanitarian Award in 2014, which validated the countless hours he spent mentoring and teach ing young physicians in the St. Vincent’s family practice residency. Dr. Cody served as Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Jacksonville, Florida Alumni Chapter, and chaired the group’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament for 18 years. The tournament’s proceeds have funded numerous scholarships to deserving high school seniors. The William and Betty Cody Foundation also awards annual scholarships to high school students. From 2014-2015, Dr. Cody served as President of the Deerwood Rotary Club, actively participating in fundraising and in the club’s various endeavors. Among them are: The First Tee of North Florida, Duval County Teacher of the Year, Early Learning Coalition of Duval, Samuel W. Wolfson High School Interact Club, and St. Boniface Haiti Foun dation. Dr. Cody leaves to cherish and celebrate his life and legacy: his devoted wife of 51 years, Betty; son, William Jr. (Kyllan); grandchildren: Laurel and Elliott; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023 in The Bethel Church from 5:00PM-7:00PM. The interment will be in Oak lawn Cemetery.
