Playing in his fourth Olympic games, Carmelo Anthony will cement his status as one of the greatest international players of all time by likely winning a third gold medal. Also when the 2016 Summer Olympics come to an end, Anthony will likely have scored the most career points in USA Olympic history.
With a 14-point performance against Venezuela on Monday, Anthony passed Michael Jordan on the USA Basketball’s all-time Olympic scoring list. Anthony now has 262 total points, which is six more than Jordan’s 256 points. Jordan did all of his scoring in just two Olympic appearances though but that shouldn’t take anything away from Anthony.
Plus, Anthony is just 12 points away from being the No. 1 scorer on USA Basketball’s Olympic scoring list. LeBron James is tops with 273 points and David Robinson is second with 270 points. But Anthony, who is one of the leading scorers for the 2016 Olympic team, should easily surpass both Robinson and James in either Team USA’s next game against Australia on Wednesday or against Serbia on Friday.
