VISUALS Migrating Marshes – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northeast District cohosts this program and adds the experience of teaching educators (and ultimately students) how to identify a wetland. They study the area to determine whether marsh plants are encroaching on the forest area, such as salt marsh vegetation monitoring. This may indicate that the marsh habitat is being reshaped because of environmental factors like erosion or sea level changes. This experience is designed to get participants excited about environmental conservation while getting a little muddy.

WHY Through the newly launched Guy Harvey Conservation Education Program, educators, and by extension schools and school districts, can participate in regional professional development opportunities dedicated to environmental Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education.
Following their training in the program, participants become Guy Harvey Conservation (GHC) Educators who are then empowered with recognition, knowledge and resources they can share with students to foster environmental awareness and contribute to a sustainable future. The program offers grants for field trips and supplies enabling GHC Educators to enhance their teaching and instill conservation values in students.
