Friends of Brentwood Library Celebrates 125th Anniversary of Lift Every Voice & Sing

The 125th anniversary of the widely acclaimed song known as the “Black National Anthem”, Lift Every Voice and Sing, will be commemorated and celebrated in the hometown of two brothers: author, James Weldon Johnson and composer, J. Rosamond Johnson with events, February 12th – 16th. Come Celebrate the reenactment of the first performance by a Children’s Choir of 500 “Youth Piano Competition & Awards Program; educational sessions on the global impact of African American music; screening of the film “The Flying Ace,” exploring the history of Florida’s film industry; and reading of James Weldon Johnson’s book, The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man.
