Friends of Brentwood Library Celebrates 125th Anniversary of Lift Every Voice & Sing

The 125^th anniversary of the widely acclaimed song known as the “Black National Anthem”, Lift Every Voice and Sing, will be commemorated and celebrated in the hometown of two brothers: author, James Weldon Johnson and composer, J. Rosamond Johnson with events, February 12th – 16th. Come Celebrate the reenactment of the first performance by a Children’s Choir of 500 “Youth Piano Competition & Awards Program; educational sessions on the global impact of African American music; screening of the film “The Flying Ace,” exploring the history of Florida’s film industry; and reading of  James Weldon Johnson’s book, The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man.  For locations and more information visit www.jwjlifteveryvoice.com.
