By WI Web Staff – Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has officially quashed speculation that she will be part of President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming administration.

Bottoms, 50, said she’d rather concentrate on the city of Atlanta and its residents.

“Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined,” Bottoms’ senior adviser Rashad Taylor said in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The mayor’s focus remains on the people of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia.”

Bottoms, an attorney who was elected mayor in 2017, had been rumored to be under consideration for the Cabinet-level posts of secretary of Housing and Urban Development or to head the Small Business Administration.

The mayor is a rising star in the Democratic Party whose national profile rose when her response to unrest in her city over the summer was generally well-received.
