Alpha Phi Alpha Oratorical Competition Awards Area Young Men With Scholarships

The Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. held its 7th Annual MLK Oratorical Competition last weekend featuring seven local young men competing for $5,500 dollars in scholarships.

The eloquent scholars moved the crowd at Westside High School with their thoughts on “Modern media and its effects on the black community.”

Winner included: 1st place – Joseph Belk (Westside High); 2nd Place – Alphonso Robinson (Stanton College Preparatory); 3rd Place – James Terrell (Sandlewood High and 4th Place – Akil Reynolds (Terry Parker High). The other finalist included Gary Scott (Trinity Christian), Brandon Mack (A. Phillip Randolph) and Kaleb Roundtree (Stanton College Preparatory).

President Ben Parker stated “I am so impressed and proud of these young men. They exemplify the hope and possibility of the future.”
