New research from the University of North Florida (UNF) show that free Jax PBS KIDS Family and Community Learning workshops are truly helping Jacksonville children improve science knowledge, social-emotional development and kindergarten readiness.

The evaluation of workshops held during the 2025-26 school year at early learning centers in underserved neighborhoods found participating children  increased their science skills by nearly 10% increase and posted a 7% overall improvement in assessments. More than 90% of families reported their children’s interest in science increased, while 95% said third children demonstrated stronger social behavior and confidence.  Nearly 97% of caregivers said they now engage more with their children during media use and feel better prepared to turn everyday experiences into learning opportunities.

Launched in 2023 with support from the Kids Hope Alliance, the free workshops will return for the 2026-27 school year at 12 early laaning centers across Jacksonville. Running from August through May, the program combines PBS KIDS educational media, hands-on activities, family meals and caregiver participation to reinforce learning at home.
