Hubbard House Launches New Male Engagement Initiative

In a month where we celebrate the fathers and father-figures in our lives, Hubbard House is excited to share a new initiative supporting men who want to be a positive influence toward a safer tomorrow. As parents, mentors, and peers, men have an important and valued role in violence prevention, and now is the time to stand together and say domestic violence has no place in our city.

“Not My City” program equips men and boys with tools to support violence prevention in their everyday lives. From exploring how to uplift and connect with peers to supporting healthy boundaries in our daughters to instilling our sons with empathy and respect- the goal is practical options for positive action.

“We know so many men want to help and be a part of this mission, but may not know how to get engaged. This program is our opportunity to give men the tools they need to own their role in a safer future for our community,” says Hubbard House Board of Directors President Stephen Dackiewicz.

The “Not My City” Program joins Hubbard House’s longstanding auxiliary Men Against Violence Against Women (MAVAW) as meaningful ways for men to get involved.

Founded in 2000, MAVAW has most recently served to bring men together for public awareness and volunteerism. “Not My City” will collaborate with MAVAW’s existing efforts to add opportunities for impactful discussion, education, and peer connection. “Men have a place in every part of this mission, and we know the power of men standing together in unified support for this work. We are so excited to continue to expand opportunities for men to find that connection,” says Hubbard House CEO Dr. Gail Patin.

There are many opportunities for men to learn more and get involved:
• Hubbard House Male Engagement Meeting: Join us on Tuesday, June 30th at 5:30-6:30 PM at Cox Media Group Jacksonville’s Farah & Farah Performance, Studio (11700 Central Parkway, Jacksonville, FL 32224) where we will share more about male engagement opportunities and explore the role of men in violence prevention (and enjoy some pizza!).
