The Jacksonville Fostering Filmmakers Grant (JFFG), awards were held inside WJCT studios to honor local filmmakers and award 10K grants for future projects. This years’ inaugural 2025 Jacksonville Fostering Filmmakers Grant recipients are actress/rapper/producer KaMillion and filmmakers Carlos Smith II and Ithiell Yisrael. Each will receive $10,000 towards their independent feature film.
For more than 100 years, Jacksonville has played a role in cinema. Actors that have filmed on the first coast include Angela Basset, John Travolta, Al Pacino, Delray Lindo, Omar Elps to Laurel and Hardy. Duval is also home to the production house Norman Studios located in Arlington, where trailblazing African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux created some of the first movies with all Black casts. The JFFG evolved from Mayor Deegan’s Arts, Culture and Entertainment Transition Committee, the office is managed by the Jacksonville Film and Television Office.
