The Silhouettes and the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., collaborated to provide items for a Thanksgiving feast to local families at the Sculzbacher Center. The group distributed the meals as well as grocery gift cards for residents to purchase any additional items needed to make the feast complete.
The Silhouettes are the female auxiliary of the fraternity composed of the wives and widows of its members. Their purpose is to provide support and assistance for the fraternity in their community outreach and other support. Locally, they work hard to ensure support is provided to children, families and women with everything from hundreds of donations to Hubbard House Women’s Shelter to Easter baskets for children.
The Organization, formerly known as National Silhouettes came into existence because of a need. Many wives accompanied their husbands to the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and found themselves alone and in need of activities to fill their time. Later, the Kappas asked their wives to act as hostesses and plan activities for visiting wives and children. Many such groups remained together and organized permanent groups, calling themselves ‘Kappa Wives” or Kappa Alpha Psi Silhouettes.
“Each year we look forward to giving to others,” said member Victoria Riggins. Echoing the mission is chapter president Dr. Lequista Smith.
“We love continuing the community sevice started by our local chapter in 1998. It is our goal to make sure we help, but that our husbands shine in all that they do,” said Smith.
