Bessie T. Thomas Celebrates 100

Born October 5, 1925, on Tutson Lane, Bessie Tutson Thomas reached a remarkable milestone this month, celebrating her 100th birthday with over 200 loved ones who gathered to honor the occasion.

“MaBessie” was an original resident of Magnolia Gardens subdivision near Edgewood Avenue, where she resided for 74 years. She was educated in Duval public schools and shared a marital union to Ernest Thomas for 63 years, together they raised six daughters. She retired after 40 years of employment with the DCPS and is a longtime member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist church.

The celebration was filled with heartfelt tributes, laughter, and cherished memories. Known for her vibrant spirit and sharp mind, she has lived a life rich in experiences and stories.

Six generations of family members and friends shared their fondest memories of MaBessie’s warmth and kindness having touched many lives over the years.

“Reaching 100 is a testament to her strength and resilience,” said Shirley Thomas, daughter number five of six. Her ability to engage in lively conversations and recall stories from the past serves as a reminder of the wealth of wisdom she possesses.

The celebration included a feast, heartfelt speeches, and multiple cakes that symbolized the sweetness of her life.
