Zodiac signs Cancer the Crab and Leo the Lion celebrated combined festive birthdays inside Springfield’s Mary Singleton Center. Seniors celebrated their July birthdays with friends and family gathered round to congratulate them on another year around the sun.

Eunice Smith celebrated her 85th birthday with her entourage for a private homestyle menu and smorgasbord brunch.

Down the hall Alexis Chatman, Betty Freeman and Pearl Davis not only celebrated their birthdays but celebrated Ms. Davis’s safety from the Sapelo Island plank fall debacle. “I’m thankful for my friends loving on me,” said Davis. Seated at the head of the table were seniors Josephine Whitfield, former queen of Mary Singleton and Mayo Clinic retiree and Marilyn Wilkerson, Harlem native, newspaper publisher and Amtrak retiree.  The two friends smiled at the camera and vowed to spend more time together and continue living their best lives.

Changing up the scenery was the birthday celebration of 1983 William Raines graduate Leon Smith. Reaching the big 60 milestone, Leon and his wife Nicole traveled for a pre-birthday two-week vacay to San Pedro, Belize.  Upon returning to Jacksonville, the birthday man was surprised with a birthday brunch inside San Marco’s Breezy Jazz house with close family, friends and grandbabies in attendance. Let’s sing it together with the Stevie Wonder harmony, “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday!”
