

By Courtnee Dupree | The Ritz Museum and Theatre was filled with joy and soul as the three-time Grammy Award winning world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir delivered an unforgettable performance of harmony, rhythm, and spirit.
The stage was filled with songs of freedom and praise, the ensemble of twenty sang, drummed, danced and displayed colorful native attire and poured their energies into each of their songs. The audience was informed that a portion of the performance “would be in six of the twelve languages they spoke”, and while the “audience might not understand the words, you will definitely understand the meaning” and feel the emotion while the audience, young and old, black and white, engaged throughout the performance. The choirs’ performance included original arrangements, such as “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Halleluiah.” Comments from patrons included how impressive the show was and the motivation to book travel to visit South Africa.
Formed in 2002, the Soweto Gospel Choir has produced awarded winning albums reaching the Billboard charts No. 1 spot and are the recipients of an America Gospel Music Award. The choir has also having performed for US Presidents, dignitaries and national TV shows In October 2006, the choir performed as invited guests for their Patron, Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s 75th Birthday Celebrations, in front of an audience which included former President Nelson Mandela.
