Members of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. (TLOD) Duval County Chapter recently hosted a special “Paint and Sip” activity designed to bring creativity and connection to active seniors in the community.
Sponsored by the organization’s Senior Citizens Committee, the event was held Saturday afternoon, March 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mandarin Senior Center. The gathering welcomed seniors from across the Duval area for an afternoon of art, fellowship, and wellness.
Participants selected images they wished to paint, with options that included portraits of African American women and men as well as scenic landscapes.
Guided by their creativity, attendees spent the afternoon painting, socializing, and enjoying a relaxed environment designed to encourage engagement and fun. The interests and well-being of senior citizens are one of the five national programmatic thrusts of TLOD. Activities such as the Paint and Sip event provide seniors with an opportunity to remain socially active, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful recreational experiences. At the conclusion of the event, each participant left with a hand-painted masterpiece suitable for framing, along with memories of a joyful afternoon spent with friends and fellow community members.
“All of the ladies stated how much they enjoyed the activity and are looking forward to the next one,” said TLOD member Vernice Whitfield.
The chapter plans to continue their senior collaboration in May by distributing fresh fruit to home-bound seniors through the Meals on Wheels program.
