“Saturday Night Lights” a Grassroots Community Activity Initiative – The first installation of Sankofa Saturdays was a resounding success. The program is currently piloted at Clanzel Brown Park as one of its premiere “Saturday Night Lights” grassroots community initiatives this summer. The Kemetic Empire/Urban-GeoPonics firmly believes in teaching youth and strengthening their emotional maturity/judgment, leadership abilities, adaptability, communication skills, enthusiasm and energy, self-confidence, respect for elders/authority, and others, but especially themselves. Sankofa Saturdays is a cultural education centered initiative where (with other local artists and culture bearers) students learn from local youth advocates that have committed themselves to creating change in the Sankofa Region. Students from the ages of 6-17 years old work to insure the preservation and documentation of the rich heritage of African Americans. Since the end of the 2015 school semester and until August 8th, Urban GeoPonics will explore the 7 principles of Kwanzaa through activities centered around fundamental concepts of an African centered- perspective lifestyle. Saturday Umoja was the focal principal explored teaching kids that through “unity” Sankofa Saturdays will strive to maintain family, community, nation and race. Some activities include “The Human Ankh”, Emperors/Empress Chess club, and conversations with our daughters, learning to sew, changing tires and more! Sankofa Saturday’s goal is to create a holistic learning environment where children will gain a world perspective on community, family, social economics and life management.  The Sankofa Saturday’s project will allow youth to go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today. The Sankofa Saturday Curriculum will be available to the public at the end of the year. Sankofa Saturdays is from 7- 10 p.m. at Clanzel Brown Park, 4415 Moncrief Rd W. For more information and/or to participate contact Sankofa Saturday’s at 706-284-9808. Websites: www.urbangeoponics.org www.TheKemeticEmpire.com.
