By JESSICA PALOMBO – Mayor Lenny Curry announced Tuesday afternoon he’s extending the city’s mask mandate for another 30 days, making the new expiration date Thursday, Nov. 26.

The executive order declares that every person over the age of 6 who is in an indoor public space must wear a face mask or covering when not able to engage in social distancing.

Earlier on Tuesday, the mayor’s office said Curry was meeting with hospital executives before making a decision whether to extend the mandate.

Public health leaders continue to urge people to continue using them when they cannot socially distance from others, especially indoors. And a recent study suggests universal mask wearing could save 130,000 lives in the U.S.

St. Augustine and Nassau County, which also had mask mandates, rescinded them after Gov. Ron DeSantis moved the state in Phase 3 reopening last month.
