Dorothy M. Hughes of Leesburg, Florida, recently celebrated a remarkable milestone, her 99th birthday with family and friends inside Copeland’s on the Southside.
Born March 20, 1926 as one of eight children, Dorothy’s life has been a testament to faith, family, and resilience. After graduating high school, Dorothy pursued her education at a business school in Jacksonville, Florida, where she met and married the love of her life, Willis E. Hughes Sr. As a stay at home mom, together they built a strong and loving family, raising their six children. Over the years, their family has grown to include 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each touched by her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith.
A devout Christian, Dorothy’s warm spirit and deep beliefs have made an impact on all who know her. “To her, there are no strangers, only friends she has yet to meet,” said son Donald Hughes. Whether through her church, community, or simple everyday interactions, she continues to share her faith and love with those around her. As she enters her 100th year, her story remains an inspiration to all who are blessed to know her.
