
From Madison Street to Myrtle Avenue, then from Kings Road to 13th street is fondly known as ‘The Hole.’ To celebrate the area’s 11th annual reunion, neighbors, family and friends held court at the Emmett Reed Community Center for a meet and greet and outdoor BBQ with new and old friends. The hole was considered a prominent area for students that attended John E. Ford, Darnell Cookman and A.L. Lewis secondary schools. Most of the students eventually matriculated to New Stanton Vocational High School, “We were tired of going to homegoing services, so we decided to celebrate life and join together in love and success,” said Jimmie Brown (79), reunion organizer. Included in the reunion were Durkeville and Blodgett home residents. “I grew up in the Blodgett homes. We all stuck together and still sticking,” smiled Janet Jordan. The community center grounds were filled with hundreds of people reveling in times gone by and the thankfulness of the camaraderie that binds the unity and heritage of ‘The Hole,’ community.
