Teach For American Alumni Teacher of the Year Finalist – By Darryl Willie

Having a class with the top math scores in Duval County and sincere concern, interest and involvement with students and parents, are two qualities that elevated Teach for America alumni Willie Brewster and Darryl White among 15 finalists for Teacher of the Year for Duval County. Only seven percent of the nation’s teachers are African American and just two percent are men of color. The two men also happen to be Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers. The fraternity has formed a partnership with Teach for America to increase the number of Black men in education proving in Duval County, it is not only effective, but beneficial as well.
