Hewitt will be a part of the District’s Office of the City Administrator and spearhead the new Office of Racial Equity, which is charged with promoting and advancing the Bowser administration’s efforts on equity initiatives and achieving racial parity.

As the chief equity officer, she will work in partnership with city agencies, residents and non-District government stakeholders to initiate policies on racial equity.

She also served as an American Psychological Association/American Association for the Advancement of Science health policy fellow for U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.).

Hewitt started her career as a professor teaching undergraduate and doctorate-level classes in psychology, social justice, multicultural counseling and diversity matters at the University of Akron and Loyola University of Chicago.
