The Upsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. recently hosted their third Annual Black and Gold Scholarship Gala titled, “Jewels on the St. John’s” to conclude the anniversary celebrations of the fraternity’s establishment on December 4th, 1906.

“This week was filled with jubilant events, centered around the aims set forth by our precious Seven Jewels: Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind,” said Michael Courtney, Founders’ Week Chair.

The event took place at the Riverside Doubletree Hotel with a sold out guest list of hundreds comprised of community members, National Pan- Hellenic Council (NPHC) fraternity and sorority members, friends and Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha.

The high honor for the evening, was the presentation of a 50 Year Membership Certificate presented to Alpha Phi Alpha Brother George Maxwell. The award was presented by Upsilon Lambda’s Bennie Moore, Sr. Following the program, guests enjoyed a live musical performance, dinner and networking.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American Men at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
