Art lovers have 2 new reasons to visit Jacksonville’s Northside. Panama Park and Boobie Clark Park are sites for 2 new mural installations. MJ Hinson painted the Garden Colours mural in Panama Park, sponsored by Hearts4Minds and David Nickashi painted the Sherwood mural in Boobie Clark Park sponsored by the Cultural Council.
On Saturday, you can meet MJ Hinson at Panama Park for the Garden Colours mural reveal and community day. Northside Pride, Hearts4minds, and the Panama Park Community Association are welcoming neighbors to Panama Park to see the inspiring mural and enjoy the outdoors together. Community leaders hope that the mural will enhance neighborhood pride and remind people that spending time in nature can boost mental health.
Hearts4Minds is a nonprofit that offers suicide prevention training. Their Murals with Meaning program funds murals across the city. You’ll know it’s a Hearts4Minds mural when you see the dragonfly in the artwork. Each mural is designed to be an emotional cue that sparks happiness and each mural has a QR code directing viewers to mental health resources in their area.
Northside Pride shares the same mission linking art, nature and mental health. Founder Dana Maule says 2 new mural installations on the Northside proves that these neighborhoods are travel-worthy destinations.
The mural reveal at Panama Park is Saturday, April 25th at 10 am. There will be yoga led by Lotus Pearl, kids zone and garden activities to expose people to agriculture and ecotourism experiences. The event is free, and all ages are welcome.
