Gamma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to Host Community Forum: Bridging the Waters Between Us: A Community Conversation

The Gamma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, will host a virtual community forum titled “Bridging the Waters Between Us: A Community Conversation” on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 7:00 PM.

This engaging and timely discussion will bring together community leaders, subject matter experts, and residents to explore how data related to education, poverty, and overall quality of life shaping experiences across Jacksonville neighborhoods. The forum is designed to connect what people are facing every day with the information that drives decision-creating a space for understanding, awareness, and action.

The virtual program will feature respected voices who will provide insight into key areas affecting the community:

  • Dr. Parvez Ahmed, City of Jacksonville – The State of Jacksonville
  • Dr. Diana Greene, former Superintendent of Duval County Public Schools and CEO of the Children’s Literacy Initiative – The State of Education
  • Ms. Melanie Patz, President and CEO of the United Way of Northeast Florida – The State of Poverty and ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households

Additionally, the forum will include a community empowerment segment featuring Moné Holder of Florida Rising, who will share important information on election laws in Florida and “Know Your Status” guidance, helping residents better understand their rights and responsibilities.

“Bridging the Waters Between Us is about creating connection and clarity,” said Simmie Raiford, President of the Gamma Rho Omega Chapter. “We are bringing together information, voices, and real community perspectives to ensure our community is not only informed but empowered to engage and advocate for what matters most.”

Through a combination of storytelling, data, and dialogue, the forum aims to help residents better understand the challenges facing their communities while highlighting opportunities for engagement and change.

The event is free and open to the public. Community members, faith leaders, educators, civic organizations, and residents across Jacksonville are encouraged to attend.
