Boxer Floyd Mayweather Ends Retirement for Ring Return to Fight Tyson, Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather will fight boxing champions Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao this year.

Although he has been fighting exhibitions since retiring from boxing, undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather has announced his return to the boxing ring after his exhibition bout with Mike Tyson in April. He reportedly will face Tyson in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa, on April 25, according to Ring Magazine.

The fighter, who has an official 50-0 record (27 by knockout), stated that he wants to set more records in the ring.

“I still have what it takes to set more records in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said in a written statement to the media outlet. “From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards — no one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event — than my events. And I plan to keep doing it with my global media partner, CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS.”

Mayweather officially hung up his gloves after knocking out Conor McGregor in August 2017, yet he has since fought in numerous exhibition matches. He has gotten in the boxing ring with Logan Paul, John Gotti III, and Mikuru Asakara, among others, during his “retirement.”

Earlier this month, the undefeated boxer filed a lawsuit against Showtime. Mayweather has accused the cable network of shorting him hundreds of millions of dollars, so he is requesting that the cable network pay him $340 million in damages.

He will also fight Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs), in a professional rematch on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Sphere in Las Vegas. This landmark night represents a major milestone for both the sport and the city of Las Vegas, as the first-ever professional boxing match to take place at Sphere. The production will utilize the venue’s advanced technologies to provide fans with an immersive experience unlike any other in boxing history.

The rematch follows the 2015 “Fight of the Century,” that remains the richest in boxing history. Their first meeting shattered every standing benchmark, generating a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. The event also set a world-record live gate of $72 million at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Now, over a decade later, these two titans return to the ring to settle the score on a technologically advanced stage.

Manny Pacquiao said: “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough—they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bringing glory to the Philippines.

Floyd Mayweather said: “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”
The fight will air free on Netflix to its subscribers.
