Celebrating 68 years of Virgo cheers, A.J. Merriweather shared his birthday with a bevy of family, friends and grandchildren at his northside home. A 1975 graduate of Ribault High School, retiree and army veteran, Merriweather has seen his share of personal wars. Twice a survivor of prostate cancer amongst other ailments, Merriweather has endured a plethora of surgeries to stand tall in his truth today. As a prostate cancer ambassador and advocate, his mission is to educate and empower black men to get tested for early detection. “Prostate cancer runs in my family. Black men must speak up and speak out to the men in their family. I’m thankful to be here today with my family,” said Merriweather. Merriweather also shares his birthday with his granddaughter, a vivacious seven-year-old who partied with grandpa in her personalized bounce house. Guests enjoyed great food, fellowship and celebrating the presence of the birthday honoree.
