United Way Celebrates Students Achievements

United Way of Northeast Florida’s Achievers For Life Celebration was held last week to celebrate the 2016-2017 school-year accomplishments of Achievers For Life middle-school students.

Special recognitions included Honor-Roll students, Parents of the Year and mentor awards. Hundreds of United Way Achievers for Life students, alumni and family members and dozens of United Way corporate and community volunteers were in attendance. The celebration was held in the UNF Student Union Room. The VIP Reception recognized Honor-Roll students, Parents of the Year, Mentor of the Year and Rookie Mentor of the Year. Remarks were made by Phyllis Martin, United Way’s head of community impact and strategic investments and Coretta Hill, United Way’s vice president of volunteer and community engagement.

The Carnival Celebration featured games and activities, including a bounce house, inflatable slide, human-sized hamster ball and more, in addition to a free dinner for all attendees. Attendees also enjoy appearances by Jacksonville Jaguar players and the Duval County Public Schools mascot, DJ
