Pastors, non-profits and members of the Jacksonville Faith Based Coalition held a Black Lives Matter peaceful protest from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) headquarters on Bay Street to the County Courthouse located on Adams Street. Sixty protestors converged in the streets to honor the memory of George Floyd and to continue protesting police brutality. Currently the sheriff’s 2019-2020 budget was $481 Million. This year the sheriff’s office is asking for a $6.2 million increase in the next years fiscal budget.  Local activist and members of the Jacksonville Faith Based Coalition are objecting to the budget increase, “This increase is not in line with our request. We don’t want to defund the police, we want to restore order and justice. The people want a citizen review board and immediate release of bodycam footage. As we fight for justice we will make our mission to ensure that black and brown lives will be heard,” said Terrance Pickett. The group is asking that local supporters text their support for a body camera policy petition to: #bodycam to 91096.
