Stage Aurora Pays Respect to Queen of Soul

When Aretha Franklin died in August, the world mourned because of the impact that she had on the music industry and American culture.  Last week, to pay tribute to this phenomenal woman, Stage Aurora Theatrical Company presented the “R E S P E C T: A Musical Tribute to Aretha Franklin.”

The performance was held on Friday, November 30th at New Life Evangelistic Center in Arlington in front of hundreds of attendees. R-E-S-P-E-C-T showcased Aretha’s hits, history and legacy. Performers did their best to capture the soul and power of Althea’s voice singing songs like: “Do Right Man, Do Right Woman,”  “Dr. Feel Good,” and of course, “RESPECT.”

The audience stood to their feet and clapped to the numerous hit songs. Headlining the concert was the New Life Fine Arts Ministry choir and local performers. The production was led by Director Darryl Reuben Hall, Project Manager Akia Uwanda, and Cast Manager Jann Clark.

Stage Aurora Theatrical Company, Inc., began in 2000 as an opportunity to provide the underserved community of Jacksonville’s Northside with professional theatre reflecting the African-American experience. Stage Aurora collaborates and shares performances with existing theatrical organizations both locally and nationally in an effort to present the best artistic work and to develop a multicultural audience that exemplifies the standards and essence of the human experience.
