Over the weekend, hundreds of hats took center stage at Epping Forest Yacht Club for the annual Ritz Chamber Players Hat Luncheon fundraiser.
On the scene were hats of all shapes, sizes and colors. Guests enjoyed a traditional lunch, raspberry lemonade and champagne punch while enjoying the music and view of the St. Johns River.
The event also showcased Ritz Chamber Players musicians’ talents. The artisans blended classical music with a combination of virtuoso players and rising stars, creating a riveting performances of the standard classical music repertoire for guests.
Ritz Chamber Music Society Chair Martha Barrett welcomed the crowd and spoke praises for the match one-to-one funds from Delores Barr-Weaver Fund at the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida. Co-Chairs Melissa Adams and Velma Montiero-Tribble closed out the program, thanking the guests and donors for their support.
The Ritz Chamber Players’ name is an homage to the African-American community that thrived in Jacksonville, Florida’s LaVilla district for more than 100 years. Boasting some of the world’s preeminent classical musicians, Ritz musicians bring new energy to the classical music genre.
Its members perform with prestigious orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Sym-phony, and the London Symphony.
Founded in 2002 by clarinetist and Artistic Director Terrance Patterson, the Ritz Chamber Players presents a landmark subscription series combining artistry on stage with inspiring educational programs in schools and throughout the community. Through its concert series in Jacksonville and performances across the United States, the Chamber Players continues to build the participation of multicultural audiences reflecting diverse society.
