On Monday, Nick Cannon led a Black Lives Matter protest outside of the Republican National Convention and spoke out against both the Republican and Democratic party for failing to listen seriously to black Americans.

“We want to be respected. We want to feel safe. We want the American Dream,” Cannon said. “You are messing with our peace of mind. We can’t operate as Americans when we can’t walk outside and feel safe.”

“We are going to be out here for the entire convention and make sure our voices are heard,” Cannon continued.  “My community brought me down here today and the lack of representation for my community brought me down here today.”

He went on to say that he was “100 percent” disappointed in both the Republican and Democratic parties.

“Both aren’t speaking about our issues and they have been taking our votes for granted for far too long. They would just sweep it under the rug and pretend it is not happening. We are just crying for help and we are losing lives by the hour.”

Twitter had a field day with Nick Cannon’s statements, with most commentators not agreeing with his anti-voting stance.

Nick Cannon wants change for black lives but does not voting work in accordance with that change? Cannon has yet to comment further on the debate.
